The Oneonta Outlaws have announced the signing of Freshman JP Sportman from Central Connecticut State University; played last summer with the national power South Troy Dodgers baseball program and helped lead them to the Connie Mack World Series in 2009.

Sportman was recently named the Akadema/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. Sportman and the Blue Devils took three of four from Mount St. Mary's over the weekend, improving to 9-7 in league play.

For the week, Sportman batted .500 (8-for-16) with four RBI, four runs scored, three extra-base hits, a walk, and a stolen base. He went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored in a 7-5 mid-week win over MAAC member Iona. He reached base on a fifth-inning single in the series opener against the Mount before walking and stealing a base in Game 2.

Oneonta Outlaws Co Owner and Managing Partner Keith Rogers said, “We are thrilled to have signed JP for the summer in a utility role. He is a very versatile athlete, who can play any position in the field and is one of the hardest working players in college baseball. Outlaw fans are going to love the way he plays the game."
